# The Scientific Method is the fruit of understanding, not the end.
The scientific method is the fruit of understanding, not the tree nor the seed nor the root. A man eats and tastes the apple and thinks he knows what fruit is.
But really he is only examining a small portion of the bigger picture. But there are millions of seeds, plants, and types of fruit, some which poison and some which give life.
To say he knows what fruit is by observing and noting a few characteristics of an apple is laughable. There is nearly an infinite amount of knowledge that goes into the production of that fruit and how his body processes it.
The observable factors are minuscule in the grands scheme of things. The scientific method only uncovers what truth is already there and frames it so we can talk about it.
I'm not saying the scientific method or "science" is bad or not useful, because it is. But there is greater truth out there than the scientific method can prove, and thus we need to understand the proper place of the scientific method, that proof is a beginning or inkling of understanding, not the end.
This idea should spur us on to even deeper levels of knowledge and truth, rather than suggesting that we are at the limit of understanding, when we are really just at the beginning.

## All Learning is Spiritual First
### [John 14:26](https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/nt/john/14?lang=eng&id=p26#p26)
But the [Comforter](https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/nt/john/14?lang=eng#note26a), which is the [Holy Ghost](https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/nt/john/14?lang=eng#note26b), whom the Father will send in my [name](https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/nt/john/14?lang=eng#note26c), he shall [teach](https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/nt/john/14?lang=eng#note26d) you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

# The Ancient Tradition
> "Locke, Hume and Kant’s rationalist Weltanschwang is so powerful that it’s socialized into every rising generation. We reinforce it every day in the ivy towers and academic halls all over the world.”
-[The Ancient Tradition](https://theancienttradition.com/2-is-it-possible-to-know-god/)
> Weltanschwang, which is the German word for a profound philosophical worldview, one that’s so comprehensive it permeates and shapes a person’s entire conception of the world.
> I take the theology that the ancients taught seriously. A lot of academics don’t.
> This is really not so much an academic pursuit as it is a spiritual pursuit. The pursuit of the original religious teachings that were given to mankind as the ancients taught by God in the very beginning.
> You’re gonna see that the theology discussed in today’s episode is really the only logical successor to the theology the ancients have taught up to this point.

## Science of Learning
Concerned with discrete, biological secondary knowledge
What we **teach** in school, but not only what is **learned**.
---
## There is much more to learning than what is scientific
---
|Spiritual Knowledge | Biological Primary Knowledge | Biological Secondary Knowledge
|--- | --- | ---
| Empathy | Mastering First Language | learning to read and write
| Love | Finding your way around local environment | mastering human invention of mathematics
| Any other knowledge not yet understood but that people know | Recognizing Faces | Any other disciplinary knowledge
---
## School focuses on the Biological Secondary Knowledge
which is the understandings that have only been important for humans in our recent evolutionary past. (Swain, p. 50)

---
### [Explicit Instruction (modeling)] should only be considered the entry instructional mode which is aimed at taking learners from absolute novices to intermediates, or perhaps quasi-experts in a given domain. (Swain, p. 55)

## What are things you know, but don't know how you know?
---
## What are things that used to be spiritual knowledge but are now secondary biological knowledge?
