# Unit 3 Statistics Discussion [Video Response](https://share.descript.com/view/rAhY3lA8o1X) I don't plan to do quantitative statistics for my dissertation. I'm much more of a story person than a numbers person, and I think I would not find the joy in the numbers. I'm much more likely to find joy and relevance in the experiences of the people I'm studying. I learned that there are still some things that I don't understand, but that I definitely understand this better than I did the last time I took a stats class. I felt like I was nodding along, thinking, I do understand this, much more than when I took stats. I think I still have a long way to go, but I'm seeing how experience with the actual statistics in my day job has made things better. One thing that will help a lot is seeing these statistics in my research and being exposed to them will help me understand them better. For me a lot of this is about vocabulary and really understanding what it is that I'm learning about. For example, I read a study the other day, and the researcher stated the research hypothesis and the null hypothesis, and I was thinking, how silly is this that the null hypothesis is that there is no effect, and the research hypothesis is that there is an effect. But now I understand that is actually what the null hypothesis is. Knowing these things will certainly make it easier for me to understand the research that I'll be studying.
