Assignment: Submit an overview/outline of a literature review. Make sure you list the key questions you will examine in your literature review.
Purpose: The goal is for this document to be a starting place for a full literature review. Of course, things may change from here to the end of the semester. Nevertheless, the goal is to provide
an outline that you can then begin to fill in by reviewing the literature.
Details:
Submit a Word document here. Your document should be AT LEAST one page and should not exceed 3 pages.
The literature review outline should consist of the following parts:
• Title
• Your name (No need for a cover page at this point)
• A paragraph intro/overview of the issue you are interested in researching
• A paragraph or two describing the questions/issues that need to be researched to give insight into this topic area. At least two papers should be cited.
• An outline of the review. The outline should include major sections of the review (These might be the subheadings)
• A works cited section. All references should be cited in APA
Here is what I mean when I say a paragraph describing the questions/issues. Let's suppose I am going to be writing a research proposal for my program that is an after-school tutoring program.
I might say:
The research literature is replete with analyses of after-school tutoring programs. I am especially interested in whether trained tutors, as opposed to volunteers, generate larger learning gains. For example,
Allen and Chavkin (2004) found that "minimally trained tutors" had a positive impact on middle school students grades in their core subjects. Is this finding widespread or would it be useful to have
certified teachers as tutors? Of course, I will also have to consider the difference in cost between using volunteers and certified teachers. Additionally, I would like to know whether tutors tend to have
more success if they follow a prescribed program or curriculum or if they simply help students complete their homework.
